Alachua Conservation Trust accepting applications for The 2022 Florida Wild For All Scholarship Through March 1

February 23, 2022

Gainesville, Florida – As part of Alachua Conservation Trust’s (ACT) continued commitment to better address the intersectionality between its work as a land conservation nonprofit and the equity and representation needs that exist in its community, ACT is now accepting applications for the 2022 Florida Wild for All Scholarship through March 1.

With this scholarship, ACT seeks to amplify and celebrate the existing voices of Black, Indigenous, Latinx and Multiracial People of Color interested in pursuing a career path in natural resources management or protection of the environment of Florida. At least three recipients will be awarded $250 to $500 each for the 2022 to 2023 school year.

"The Florida Wild for All Scholarship has given ACT an opportunity to elevate the voices of BIPOC students in our community as they pursue their future careers in the conservation field,” said ACT associate director, Heather Obara. “We are excited to welcome a new group of recipients in 2022 and to continue our efforts towards a natural resources and environmental field that is more diverse and inclusive."

As part of this scholarship, selected recipients will also have the opportunity to be featured in ACT’s biannual newsletter, participate in an ACT internship, interact one-on-one with ACT’s staff and board about their conservation interests, and attend ACT’s Conservation Stewards Awards with their families or friends.

“I love that the recipients receive the option to participate in the internship. In addition to those material needs, ACT is providing really great access and opportunity for people who may not have career connections or networking experiences,” said Florida Wild For All 2021 recipient and fall 2021 to spring 2022 outreach intern at ACT, Jessie Moses. “Even recipients who don't or can't do the internships are still invited to participate in ACT's events!”

For an application to be considered, applicants must meet all three eligibility requirements listed below:

  1. Applicants must be interested in pursuing a career path in the environment and/or natural resource management fields.

  2. Applicants must identify as Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Multiracial, or a Person of Color.

  3. Applicants must live in one of the following Florida counties: Alachua, Bradford, Clay, Columbia, Dixie, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Lafayette, Lake, Levy, Madison, Marion, Putnam, Sumter, Suwannee, or Union.
