Alachua Conservation Trust to Host Young Leaders for Wild Florida Fall Fest and Garage Sale on September 24

September 24, 2022

Gainesville, Florida – Alachua Conservation Trust (ACT) will host the Young Leaders for Wild Florida (YLWF) Fall Fest and an accompanying garage sale fundraiser at Prairie Creek Lodge from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Fall Fest will be a family-friendly opportunity to have fun and learn about native and invasive species, recycling, and springs conservation with the student organizers of YLWF. There will be educational game stations, live animal demonstrations, community organizations, and more. Event partners include Ashton Biological Preserve, Alachua County Environmental Protection Department, Opus, Repurpose Project, and Alachua County Solid Waste and Recovery. YLWF Fall Fest is free and open to the public. The Kona Ice Truck will also be selling snow cones from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

YLWF is an environmental leadership summer camp for students ages 16-19. The program supports participants in becoming Florida's next generation of environmental leaders through educational outdoor adventures, workshops with community leaders, and student-led advocacy projects. The Fall Fest is the advocacy project for the 2022 YLWF group and the young leaders will be running the event with ACT support.

“The YLWF Fall Fest offers many opportunities for kids to learn about local to global environmental issues while having fun. This is definitely not an event to miss!”, said YLWF 2022 camper, Delena Nguyen.

Simultaneously, ACT will host a garage sale to raise funds for the organization and its important conservation work. The garage sale will also take place at Prairie Creek Lodge and attendees are encouraged to participate in both the garage sale and Fall Fest.

Prairie Creek Lodge is located at 7204 Southeast County Road 234, Gainesville, FL 32641.
